October 25th, 2017

Alkmaar - October 25, 2017. AZ Alkmaar will continue to train youth academy players and analyse matches in Virtual Reality (VR). The Eredivisie club confirms that the contract with Beyond Sports, officially running until 2017, has been extended. The new agreement will run until the end of the 2018-2019 season.

The collaboration, that started in 2013, between the best youth academy of the Netherlands and Beyond Sports has been intensified over the last couple of years. Where it started as a research project, proving the functioning of the tools and optimizing the results through further development, the Virtual Reality training has now been implemented in the club’s weekly schedule.

‘Beyond Sports has continued to develop its products over the last few months, resulting in increased efficiency and easier use for AZ regarding Virtual Reality training. This contract extension shows that our choices have achieved the results we hoped for.’ says Sander Schouten, Business Director at Beyond Sports.

AZ currently uses the Virtual Reality training for its youth academy teams to increase players’ reaction speeds and spatial awareness. Robert Eenhoorn, General Director at AZ Alkmaar: ‘It’s being used as an addition to the regular training, not as a replacement. By focusing on aspects that complement the training on the field, this VR training creates more complete players.’
